Admission Information

Welcome to Johnston Institute! We are committed to a fair, transparent, and equitable admissions process. This page provides all the information you need to apply for our Computer Science programs.

Please note: Johnston Institute only accepts applications from individuals who will be at least 18 years of age by the course commencement date.

How to Apply

Step 1: Choose Your Course

Explore our programs and decide which course best suits your career goals. Review the entry requirements for each course carefully.

Step 2: Prepare Your Documents

You will need to provide:

  • A copy of your passport or photo ID

  • Certified copies of your academic transcripts and qualifications

  • Evidence of English language proficiency (if required)

  • Your current CV/resume (if applicable)

  • Any other documents listed under the specific course requirements

Step 3: Submit Your Application

You can apply in two ways:

  • Direct Application: Complete the Johnston Institute Admission Application Form and submit your documents to admin@ji.edu.au

  • Through an Education Agent: If you are applying via one of our authorised agents, they can assist you with preparing and lodging your application.

Step 4: Application Assessment

Our admissions team will review your application. You may be asked to provide further information or supporting documents.

Step 5: Receive Your Offer

If your application is successful, you will receive an Unconditional or Conditional Offer of Admission outlining your course details, fees, and conditions.

Step 6: Accept Your Offer

To accept, simply sign and return the Acceptance of Offer form and make the initial payment as specified in your Offer.

Step 7: Visa and Enrollment

International students will receive a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) to support their student visa application. You must then complete your enrolment and attend the compulsory orientation.

Important Fee Information (Pre-Enrolment Disclosure)

Before you accept any Offer of Admission, you will be provided with:

  • The total estimated tuition fees and a breakdown of non-tuition (ancillary) fees.
  • Advice that non-tuition fees may be subject to periodic review.

  • Comprehensive refund conditions, including your rights under the Tuition Protection Service (TPS).

Deferrals and Appeals

  • Deferral: You may apply to defer your commencement for up to 12 months by submitting a request with supporting evidence.
  • Appeals: If your application is unsuccessful, you have the right to appeal the decision by lodging an Appeals Form within 5 working days of receiving the notification.

Course Entry Requirements

Academic Requirements:

a) Applicants should have successfully completed a bachelor’s degree (AQF 7) or higher from a recognised university or higher education institution in any discipline;
For domestic students, we may consider:

b) completion of an associate degree or Advanced Diploma (AQF 6) from a recognised university or higher education institution in any discipline or equivalent is required. Additionally, applicants must have a minimum of two years of full-time managerial and/or professional work experience in a related field completed within the last three years. Applicants need to demonstrate that their work experience is relevant, current, and equivalent to the learning outcomes of a bachelor’s degree. An official written reference from the current employer should be provided to describe the current duties and their relevance to this course, OR

c) at least three years of full-time managerial or professional experience in a related field, completed within the last three years. Applicants need to demonstrate that their work experience is relevant, current, and equivalent to the learning outcomes of a bachelor’s degree. An official written reference from the current employer should be provided to describe the current duties and their relevance to this course, OR

d) an experience of at least five years working in a related field on a full-time basis, completed within the last three years. Applicants need to demonstrate that their work experience is relevant, current, and equivalent to the learning outcomes of a bachelor’s degree. An official written reference from the current employer should be provided, describing the current duties and their relevance to this.

English Language Requirements:
Applicants from a non-English speaking background must satisfy English language requirements as follows:

IELTS (International English Language Testing System) – Academic 6.5 overall with no band less than 6.0
PTE Academic 62 or better with no band less than 54
TOEFL CBT (Computer Based Test) 225 with no band less than 19
TOEFL iBT (Internet Based Test) 86 with no band less than 19
Cambridge English: CAE / CPE 176 or better

JI will not accept online/at-home versions of any of the following English language proficiency tests:

  • IELTS Indicator / IELTS Online
  • TOEFL iBT Home Edition
  • PTE Academic Online

Note: The English language proficiency test must be completed within two years of the student’s course commencement.
