Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
At Johnston Institute, we understand that learning happens in many ways — through formal study, professional experience, and workplace training. Our Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process gives you the opportunity to have your previous knowledge and skills formally recognised as credit towards your course.
What is RPL?
RPL is an assessment process that evaluates your prior formal and informal learning to determine whether it meets the learning outcomes of one or more units in your chosen course. If approved, you may receive credit, which can shorten the duration of your study.
What can be recognised?
You may apply for RPL based on:
-
Previous study at a recognised higher education or VET provider
-
Accredited micro-credentials
-
Professional training or certification from industry bodies
-
Relevant work experience (recent and within 5 years)
Key Points
-
RPL may reduce your study load by up to 50% of the course.
-
Credit is only awarded for whole units, not partial units.
-
Applications must include evidence (e.g., transcripts, certificates, portfolios, references).
-
No tuition fees are charged for units awarded as RPL.
How to Apply
-
Complete the RPL Application Form.
-
Upload all required supporting documents.
-
Your application will be assessed by academic staff, and you will be notified of the outcome (normally within 5 working days).
